Texas Children’s existing warehouse was operating at full capacity, creating congestion, inefficient order picking, and excessive manual handling.
These inefficiencies affected downstream deliveries to patient areas—known as PARs—introducing risks of delays, inaccuracies, and misplaced inventory.
To enhance service across its growing network, Texas Children’s developed a new Consolidated Services Facility. The goal: improve operational flow, maximize space utilization, and partially automate order fulfillment—especially for broken-case and inner pack picking. The system also needed to accommodate specialized storage environments such as cold storage for vaccines and secure low-particulate storage for artwork and sensitive items.

The Solution.
Texas Children’s Hospital partnered with Streamline Integrated Technologies to design a high-performance material handling system built around Ferretto Vertical Lift Modules (VLMs).
The installation includes seven VLMs, grouped into three picking pods to support barcode-driven batch picking using totes and carts. Each pod operates in a round-robin sequence, enabling continuous picking and minimal downtime.
